The difference between musicians using their craft/art to perfect their reproductions as opposed to visual artists using their craft/art ONLY to be innovative is IMPRESSIVELY PENETRATING. I suspect the dichotomy comes from the legacy of Romanticism.

Thanks for the video, the finished background reminds me the works of Richard Schmid (Alla Prima II) which is something I want to learn one day, it was good to see a similar process on camera :-) a tip for water-mixable oil fans: Schmincke has a medium called Norma Painting Medium Blue, so far it gave me the best results (as in: most similar to traditional oils thinned with OMS) from all the water-soluble thinner replacements I tried

I am very new to painting but I have spent decades working wood. I don't know if you still use this method as the video is 4 years old. I would suggest using a polyurethane glue " Gorilla" or something similar instead of PVA for a better adhesion. Also, if you use PVA glue it is heat activated so if your ends are not completely bonded after the first clamping you can use a regular household iron to reactivate that glue on the ends or anywhere you may find a bubble that did not adhere, I've done this many times with thin wood veneer. If you get any bleeding through the canvas, I believe the oil paint will adhere better to the polyurethan glue than the PVA. I would suggest trying the polyurethane on a small panel to see if you like the results as it has totally different properties when gluing. I love all your videos and am totally grateful for your insight and the time you spend to teach us newbies, Thank You!!

It's a fantastic option, but it can be really tricky when you want to capture organic moments that children will have a hard time holding! Same thing goes for animals. Though with adults, this can be great, provided that you're able to pay the model for their time, or your sitter is able to pose for long periods.

It wasn't clear what you were doing at the end and how it matched up with what you were saying when you dipped the large brush into the clear liquid and gentle brushed it across the whole painting. What was in the clear mixture? How long had the painting been allowed to dry before you did this step? Any further explanation would be appreciated.

I am glad to see this video as when I called an supplier of aluminum panels, he said the ph neutral glue (I use the same one as you) won’t penetrate the surface of the aluminum and there won’t be a bond. Your video seems to show otherwise. How often do you get air bubbles inside your panels?
